A runner was attacked by a mountain lion in Fort Collins. He fought the animal and choked it in self-defense

The man, who is unidentified, heard something creeping up from behind as he was running around Horsetooth Mountain Park in Colorado. The juvenile white mountain lion bit him in the face and wrists, but he was able to wrestle his way out from the lion and fight back. He suffered non-life threatening injuries during the scuffle but managed to make to a local hospital to get treatment.

Local authorities believe the man did what was right and defended himself against the mountain lion.

Mountain lion attacks are pretty rare in the state of Colorado. Back in 1999, 3-year-old Jaryd Atadero was attacked by a mountain lion around the Big South Trail in the upper Poudre Canyon west of Fort Collins and died. In 1997, 10-year-old Mark Miedema died in Rocky Mountain National Park due to a mountain lion attack. In 1999, a runner was attacked by a mountain lion around Clear Creek High School in Idaho Springs and died.
