Uber (and some Lyft) drivers around the globe are protesting Uber's compensation policies ahead of a public offering by logging off of the app for 24 hours
Drivers in San Diego and around the world are logging out of their Uber app for 24 hours in protest today. Drivers in Atlanta are logging off for 12 hours; 2-hours during the morning commute in New York City.
They want job security and better wages. The company, and their rival Lyft, still view its drivers as "independent contractors" despite Uber saying, "Drivers are at the heart of our service — we can't succeed without them," in a statement.
Uber is going public this Friday on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the company is estimated to be valued at $10 billion USD.
