Review: When a convicted criminal comes up to you and asks for a car ride, one’s initial reaction is NOT typically to provide shelter and fall in love with them. However, that’s not the case with Kate Winslet’s character, Adele, in Labor Day. Adele, who is very emotionally unstable single mother and when she meets prison escapee Frank (Josh Brolin), it’s a match-made in heaven.  Even though Frank is a prisoner, you can’t help but root for their love because of their in-depth pasts and connection towards one another.  The acting in this film is phenomenal, but the storyline was a bit lack-luster. The true stars who stole the show are the kids played by Gattlin Griffith and Brooke Smith. Their character interaction is very child-like: innocent and blunt, which makes for hilarious scenes this movie needed.

I give Labor Day one thumbs up. I have to admit that it’s not Winslet’s best work, but I still love her as an actress.
