Review: Joseph Gordon-Levitt is amazing in this film!!! From his built figure to his acceptable New Jersey accent, he passes for a guido all the way. Gordon-Levitt plays Jon Martello whose ability to get all the ladies landed his nickname “Don Jon”. Despite his high scoring record with women, his downside is his addiction to pornography. This creates a problem when Jon wants to settle down and have a committed relationship with that special someone. Scarlett Johansson plays Don Jon’s girlfriend, and their relationship totally reminds of Sammi and Ronnie from MTV’s Jersey Shore. In fact, all the characters in Don Jon are a portrayal of the MTV reality stars. Maybe Gordon-Levitt got some inspiration from The Situation?? Warning there is a lot of nudity, which made it uncomfortable, but the film was so funny from beginning to end that you eventually become numb to the shock of so many private body areas being shown multiple times. There are some scenes that might seem random and irrelevant when first shown, but trust me when I say it all makes sense towards the end, even though it was abruptly explained in a short period.
I give Don Jon one thumb up for its humor and deeply-rooted explanations of addiction and love. This is Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut, and I think he does a very good job. Also, he has a star-studded cast because of his personal connections, so keep an eye out for them, especially one in particular that was named “Sexist Man Alive”.
