I went to Puerto Tico with 8 different people all on different agendas and it proved to be a very interesting trip. Sometimes dealing with 8 different personalities can be a bit difficult however it can be done! Here are my top 5 tips plus a bonus one when traveling with friends this summer.
Tip 1: When going with a group of friends make sure everyone is actually friends. Don't include friends of friends or people you barely know. When on a trip there are so many different personalities that if everyone doesn't already know each other it could cause some tension or unknown circumstances when dealing with people 24 hours a day for days at a time. And if you aren't already friends you may just not want to put up with it.
Tip #2: When going on a trip make sure everyone is on the same agenda or wants the same thing out of the trip. If half of the people are just there to relax and don't want to sight see or do any of that stuff while the others do it could cause some problems when trying to decide when and what to do. We saw that on our trip and it pretty much split the group in two. Make sure you are all on the same page more or else before booking the trip. If your goal is to relax by the pool all week, go with others that want to do the same, and vice versa. Also make sure you don't have all A type personalities. Almost every single person on our trip was an A type personality and it caused for a lot of chiefs and not enough Indians...if you know what I mean.
Tip #3: When in a foreign country, or somewhere where english is not the primary language, make sure you travel with at least one person who knows the language and culture. Our trip was sooooo much easier because most people on the trip spoke spanish and understood the Puerto Rican culture. My one couple friend decided to venture out on their own one day without anyone who spoke spanish and they were completely lost and got lost and everything in between.
Tip #4: When booking hotel room, tours, etc get all the info and let each couple or person do it on their own. When one person puts everything on their credit card with the intention of everyone paying that person back it just turns into a mess when trying to pay with various credit cards, or check out etc. It's ok for one personal to get all the info for the hotels, flights, etc and send it out to each person but then it's up to each to actually book it on their own. It makes all the money situation work out waaaayyy easier at the end.
Tip #5: Don't make every decision based on trip advisor. Just cuz it gets greaat stars on trip advisor doesn't mean it's always good. Use your own brain to make decisions on where to eat, ask the locals, and then go. It's ok to try new places that are not 4 star rated on trip advisor. At the same time don't be surprised if they end up not being great also.
Bonus Tip: PLEASE do not be THESE GUY on the trip. Warning this picture may be offensive to some.
