So for whatever reason, I had the idea to try and make my own Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles bobble head for this year's costume. I found some DIY's online but none really had step by step instructions so I kind of just did what I thought would work! LOL....
As you can see in the two above pictures, I bought some wire frame from Home Depot for like 10 bucks. I forgot the exact name but will find out today and post tomorrow. I tried to shape the wire in the shape of a Ninja Turtle head but it was EXTREMELY hard because the edges are so sharp. I had my uncles helping me hold and bend the wire as I cut with heavy duty cutters I got from Home Depot.
Once I had the wire in the shape that I wanted (or rather the best it was going to get) I got regular masking tape to cover the sharp edges. For the most part I was able to bend all the sharp edges so they wouldn't scratch me however if there were any doubts at all I just covered them with masking tape inside and out. I then started wrapping the head in green duct tape I bought from Michaels (on sale for like 3 bucks). I used just over one roll for the whole head.
To make the mask I bought a yard of felt from Walmart for 2.97. I also bought a small piece of white cloth for the eyes. I then cut two circles in the red felt for the eyes and glued the white cloths to the bag to create the illusion of the eyes. I used fabric glue. Be careful though because the glue went through the felt and you can see a little bit of the glue on the front of the mask. It's not too bad though but maybe use a different kind of glue? Or less? I don't know.... I also used a black sharpie to draw in the eyeballs and then cut a little hole within the black eyeballs to create a whole I could see out of.
And then I tied my mask around and it fit perfectly!
Then I had some fun dancing in my living room! LOL...
Remember it's still a work in progress. I'm going to try and add a mouth with a whole to stick a straw through lol. I also still need to find green pants or shorts or whatever and I might attempt to make a real shell out of the wire too! LOL.... Oh and I have to still make weapons and accessories and feet and hands..omg....I will post more tomorrow!
