Inmate Forced to Give Birth to Baby on Jail Cell Floor

Jessica Preston was arrested for driving with a suspended license at the end of 2016 in Detroit, Michigan.

Preston was 8 months pregnant when she was ordered to pay $10,000 cash bond for the offense, but when she didn't have the money, she was forced to stay in Macomb County Jail until trial.

Jessica went into labor about a month early and pleaded with guards that she needed medical attention, but no one allowed her to go to a hospital! A few hours later, on that dirty cell floor, her 5 pound son Elijha was born. Jessica's husband, Thomas Chastain, never got a chance to be there for the birth.
