  • Protesters in Minneapolis set a police station on fire last night. This comes after the death of George Floyd, a black man who died after being pinned beneath a Minneapolis police officer’s knee.   Three days of violent protests have spread to cities across the US including Minneapolis, Louisville, New York, LA, Memphis, Denver, and in Arizona. People have been looting Targets in Minneapolis as well forcing Target to temporarily close two dozen area stores. The National Guard was activated last night.  The Mayor of Minneapolis tweeted this, “Please stay home. Please do not come here to protest. Please keep the focus on George Floyd, on advancing our movement and on preventing this from ever happening again.” Meanwhile President Trump threatened to take action to bring the city of Minneapolis “under control saying, “I can’t stand back and watch this happen to a great American city, Minneapolis. These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen. Just spoke to the governor and told him that the military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but when the looting starts the shooting starts.
  • Westfield Malls are reopening today. UTC, Plaza Bonita, Mission Valley, and North County will reopen with new hours and increased cleaning. Face coverings are required.  Meanwhile, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Homegoods announced that they will begin to reopen all of its stores by the end of June. They have already opened 1600 stores nationwide. Store employees will wear a mask and employees will also receive daily health screenings and temperature checks. Fitting rooms, the company said, will remain closed in U.S. stores.
  • San Diego County officials announced yesterday that starting Tuesday, they are easing some restrictions at local beaches. This means passive activities like sunbathing and sitting on the beaches will be allowed. Beach parking lots will remain closed and beachgoers are being encouraged to follow social distancing guidelines within small groups.
